A Confession
First of all, I think the server issues are fixed.
Secondly I have a confession. I’m getting an Exchange Server!
Yeah…
This means we will be using a Windows Server on our network. So what happened? Why? Have I been assimilated?
Well, all my users want to use Outlook, they want to sync with their PDA’s, and some want to share contacts and calender info. We’ve been using Google Apps, but everyone still wants Outlook and to sync their PDA’s. This isn’t quite so easy with Google Apps. The calender sharing is pretty easy, even with Outlook there are some 3rd party utilities to sync with GCal, but they’re buggy, and I haven’t found anything that will reliably sync and share contacts with PDA<->Outlook<->Google Apps.
What it comes down to is we’re trying to get some Exchange functionality without Exchange. The main reason we’ve avoided Exchange in the past is cost, but I’ve saved enough money on some other projects that I think we can afford it now. So after a recent disaster with a corrupt Palm database, we made the decision to make the plunge and use Exchange.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
