Updates Complete!!!

… well, mostly complete.  I still need to configure my Nagios VM.  But I have my Samba PDC configured w/ LDAP running flawlessly, and the move to a VM for my LAMP setup worked out well.  I’ve had to do some “funny” things with my subnetting over the past few weeks while everything was still in a transition state, but it’s all straightened out now, and everything seems to be performing well.  For now I’m backup up over iSCSI using dd and it seems to work well.  This way if Server1 goes down, I just need to mount the partitions on the removable drive on Server2 and start up the VM’s.  The most data we’d lose is one day’s worth, which is acceptable for us.  My RAID array is setup to send alerts to my cell phone.  Now I just need to configure Nagios.  I’ve got a VM setup for it, but I haven’t installed and configured Nagios on it yet.  Once that’s done alerts for all servers and networked hardware will be sent to my cell phone and I should be on top of any problems that arise.

I’ve considered setting up a heartbeat monitor between Server1 and Server2 and configuring a script to mount the partitions and startup the VM’s on Server2 if Server1 is down for an extended period of time, but I think I’ll hold off on that for now.  I don’t think we really need that level of service, and I can foresee many headaches in getting that setup and working flawlessly.

For now the users are all snuggled in to their cubicles happy and content, so I’d call it a job well done.
