Day 1 of the IT Roundtable
The first official day of the IT Roundtable was full of vendor presentations. We heard from VMWare, Xcentric, Katharion, ScriptLogic, DataCore, ServiceU and the Web Empowered Church. Overall it was a very informative day. I’ve been using VMWare for some time, but no where near it’s full potential. Virtualization was a hot topic today. VMWare talked about virtual servers, Xcentric talked about application virtualization, and DataCore has a storage virtualization solution. When I get back I’m going to take a long hard look at all these solutions to see how they can help the ministry at CHCC. I’ve got some ideas on how we can better utilize VMWare, and I’ve started researching some open source application virtualization products. DataCore’s storage virtualization solutions are definitely something we could use, but I know they won’t fit into this upcoming fiscal year’s budget, but maybe next year.
The Web Empowered Church definitely has a great product, and did I mention it’s all open source and FREE! I’m definitely going to spend some more time looking into that and looking into how their software enables the Church in it’s ministry.
Today is Day 2 and the actual roundtable. I’ve been struggling with my asthma and coughing quite a bit. If I talk too much and I don’t have a cough drop handy I’ll go into a coughing spell until I pass out. If anybody’s out there I’d ask that you pray for me today. I want to participate in today’s conversations without passing out.
For now, I think I could use some breakfast.

Bryson praying for you today. Hope your get to feeling better. Dad
before i forget: when you get back, check out VirtualBox (www.virtualbox.org). Open-source VM. I’m not sure how well it works for a server, but I use it everyday to run windows on my work machine, and it’s great
