Leadership Board
So we finally decided to use FUDForum for the CHCC Leadership board. I’ve spent the last three weeks testing different options and then setting up this particular one. It’s going to be a place for CHCC staff, elders, deacons, and someday probably small group leaders and Sunday School teachers to communicate with each other about the needs of the people in our church.
While I was testing the new forum a couple of weeks ago, on a Thursday morning, I started having some performance issues and frequent time-outs. I had changed some performance settings the day before, so I thought maybe I should change them back. I didn’t see any immediate difference, but by Thursday afternoon all seemed well again, and all has been well until I sent out an email to all the staff yesterday morning (that would be a Thursday morning) telling them about the new board, where to find it and how to login. The performance issues were back! It took 30 seconds for a page to load, or it would time-out. Then by Thursday afternoon all was well again. So I concluded our hosting company is running some CPU-intense maintenance on our MySQL server on Thursday mornings. I fill out a trouble ticket, and sure enough they run backups on that particular MySQL server at that time, and I was told that the time can’t be changed. But the helpdesk guy is going to check with the System Administrator to see if we can move our MySQL databases over to another server that backups at a different time. So now I know I’m not going crazy, and I’ve done all I can, now it’s in the System Administrators hands. While a couple of hours down-time on a Thursday morning won’t be the end of the world, a couple of hours down-time 1AM Thursday morning would be a whole lot better!
