Laptop Setup

So I got my laptop back and I think I’ve got everything setup the way I want… for now.

I’ve installed Zenwalk as my primary OS. It’s a slackware distro that uses the XFCE desktop environment. Then I’ve got Crossover Office installed which used wine to run Windows Software. So I’ve got OpenOffice installed along side MS Office. Then I setup VMWare and I’m running an OpenBSD virtual machine, and a BackTrack virtual machine. OpenBSD recently released version 4.0, so I’m testing it out. I’ll probably upgrade our router at work. It’s currently running OpenBSD 3.8. Backtrack is a Slax-Based Linux LiveCD designed specifically for network penetration testing. Besides running as a LiveCD, it also has an option to install to the hard drive. So I did this inside my virtual machine. This way if I update any software, I don’t have to do it everytime I boot up the virtual machine.

I tried installing some games, but didn’t have alot of luck. I tried out CVSCedega, and regular WINE, and Crossover Office, but didn’t have much luck with any of the above. I really don’t plan on gaming on my laptop so I’m not really concerned.

I have one last decision to make. Should I install a Windows virtual machine or not? Maybe Vista? I’ll think about it, but for now it does all I want it to.
